The furnishing of the rooms is done in traditional style with wall plastering done via natural material. The property is managed by Laxman and Negi jee who take all care to keep the guests feel on top of world. The simple homely yet tasty food add another joy the the stay. All in all I would definitely visit the place again with friends. It was an incredible drive from Kotabagh to Hartola and we were extremely elated as we were able to visit Golu Devta's shrine at Ghodakhaal and Kainch... It was an incredible drive from Kotabagh to Hartola and we were extremely elated as we were able to visit Golu Devta's shrine at Ghodakhaal and Kainchi Dhaam. Our happiness quadrupled when we reached here. Take a tiny walk through a concrete ramp, we were standing outside the Heritage property that got constructed 120 years ago. It was windy and we were feeling cold, but the moment we entered the seating area, it got so cozy and comfortable and we could realize the temperature difference of about 7-8 degree Celsius. There are four rooms and we were fortunate to get the one on the upper ground floor with a nice seating area just outside. The two rooms on this floor are separated by the seating area and a sturdy door and can be turned into one unit with seating area as the passage, if needed. We got the door opened as Bhattji and Bhanuji were in the other room. Our room was simply amazing. It had real vibes of yesteryears and was kept that way while equipping it with the guest-friendly amenities. We had a nice comfortable double bed, wooden almirah, slippers, electric kettle with sachets of tea and coffee. The view from our room's window was truly magnificent. The washrooms and in fact, the entire property is an architectural marvel of how to restore the legacy blended with a touch of modernity. The dining area with a small wall-mounted temple is a great addition and can accommodate around twelve guests. The services were so personalized with Chacha and Mr. Cook attempts to make every guest highly comfortable. The food was simply amazing and the variety served was wide and different during each meal. Mr. Sundar, the Co-Founder of the concept is veritably courteous, humble and friendly. He is a seasoned trekker as well and has opened several sectors and routes for trekking purposes in selected pockets of India, Bhutan and Nepal. We went for a great refreshing trek up to Maheshwar Farms and made our way through woods, climbed trees, tasted Kafal, spotted certain flora and fauna species including adorable butterflies. We also had an opportunity to visit the orchards at the back side that gave us a complete feel of step farming. IT WAS HARD TO LEAVE .... We initially arrived thinking and preparing Pawan, the manager, that we will only be at Hartola for a couple of days and th... IT WAS HARD TO LEAVE .... We initially arrived thinking and preparing Pawan, the manager, that we will only be at Hartola for a couple of days and then head to one of their other Heritage Homestay in Binsar. But we couldn't. Within a few hours of getting to Tranquil Peaks, the welcoming and caring Laxmann Singh, Bhupal ji, the stillness, the misty hills and the many many birds captured our hearts. It didn't take us long to decide to stay in Hartola for all of the 5 days that we were in Uttarakhand. 3 of the 5 mornings, we were treated to a view of the snow capped mountains in the distance while we enjoyed garam garam breakfast, followed by steaming coffee. The breakfast and the coffee happened every day of course :D. There's plenty of little paths around the hill on which the cottage is and also a multitude of walking tracks on the neighboring hills. So, armed with our binoculars, we would wander away on different tracks in the morning and late afternoons. While we meandered through Pear and Apple trees, laden with rotting unplucked fruit, Plum Headed Parakeets, Himalayan Bulbuls, Gray Treepies, Black Headed Jays, Great Barbets, the brilliantly teal Verditer Flycatchers, plenty of Rufous Sibia .... all lifers for us..... kept us great company. Sumptuous lunches with plenty of local produce, Bhat ki dal, kadi, Aate ka halwa, kheere ki sabzi and much more...... light dinners (khichdi on request or just phulka and dal)..... interspersed with persistently offered but reluctantly agreed to pakoda evenings or Maggie with veggies ...... Oh ! we felt like Kings ... err Queens .... aaa ... King and Queen. The beginning of September is expected to bring some rain to this eastern region of Uttarakhand, but we were fortunate I guess ..... We got - clear mornings, beautiful misty afternoons and evening with clouds climbing up fast on us from the valley below. The night sky blessedly stayed clear to gift us the total lunar eclipse. On this side of the Hartola village (where the homestay is located), There's a couple of small kirana stores for basic supplies (but we didn't really need to buy anything). Other than that there's village homes, a school up the hill, a bunch of donkeys and some cows in the village homes. Walking to other parts of Hartola we noticed many hotels under construction. It didn't ever take long to leave behind all of that and find ourselves just amongst trees and birds and bees. There much to do and much to just be without doing (at Tranquil Peaks Heritage Homestay and around). We lost ourselves in views and birds mostly and quiet walks. Ooh, I also did attend a Zoom call from the cottage one morning and used the live snow-capped mountains background to tease everyone with :p.
